OpenRouter alternatives in 2026: routers, proxies and direct APIs compared
Rynler publishes this page and is one of the options, so read it as a vendor comparison. Every competitor fact links to the vendor's own documentation, pricing page or terms, read on 2026-10-07. We did not benchmark latency or output quality for any option, and we do not rank them with a score: the right choice depends on what you need OpenRouter for.
How we compared
We kept criteria that can be checked on official pages and that change the bill or the integration:
- API shape: is there an OpenAI-compatible chat completions endpoint?
- What you pay on top of model prices: a fee on credit purchases, a markup on usage, or nothing published.
- Money rules: prepaid or invoiced, credit expiry, refund of unused credit.
- Control: provider routing, bring-your-own-key (BYOK), self-hosting.
"Not published" in the tables means we did not find the information on the pages we read. It does not mean the vendor has no such policy.
The shortlist
| Option | Type | Charge on top of model prices | Unused credit | BYOK |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Requesty | Router | 5% | Purchases final and non-refundable | Yes |
| Eden AI | Router | 5.5% platform fee at checkout | Non-refundable unless otherwise stated | Yes, on eligible plans |
| Hugging Face Inference Providers | Router to partner providers | No markup, no additional fees | Not published | Yes |
| LiteLLM | Self-hosted open-source proxy | None for the MIT proxy; you pay providers directly | Not applicable | Your own keys by design |
| Direct providers (OpenAI, Together AI, Groq, Fireworks AI, DeepSeek) | One provider each | No fee published on the pages we read | Varies: see below | Not applicable |
| Rynler | Inference API with its own catalogue | No purchase fee; five listed models priced 10% below eligible OpenRouter reference prices | Never expires; non-refundable except where the law requires | No |
| OpenRouter, for reference | Router | No model markup; 5.5% card fee on credit purchases (5% crypto) | Card purchases refundable on request within 24 hours, crypto never; may expire after one year | Yes |
The options, one honest paragraph each
Requesty
A router with an OpenAI-compatible endpoint at https://router.requesty.ai/v1 and an EU endpoint (docs). It charges 5% over provider cost. Its pricing page calls this a markup on usage, while its billing documentation describes a 5% service fee added to every top-up, with the example that a USD 100 top-up costs USD 105 (pricing, billing). It offers BYOK for several providers, an auto_cache option on top of provider caching, and a free plan limited to free models. Its terms state that credit purchases are final and non-refundable (terms). Pick it if you want OpenRouter-style routing with an EU endpoint.
Eden AI
A router whose LLM endpoint is OpenAI-compatible (quickstart). It says it does not mark up provider prices and charges a 5.5% platform fee at checkout when you buy credits (pricing). BYOK is available on plans that include provider keys (BYOK). Its terms say payments are non-refundable unless otherwise stated (terms). Pick it if you also need non-LLM AI APIs from the same account.
Hugging Face Inference Providers
A router to partner inference providers behind https://router.huggingface.co/v1, OpenAI-compatible for chat completions only (overview). Hugging Face states it charges the same rates as the provider with no markup and no additional fees, includes small monthly credits that depend on your account type, and lets you bring your own provider key, in which case Hugging Face does not charge for the call (pricing). Pick it if your team already works in the Hugging Face ecosystem and wants open models without a platform fee.
LiteLLM
An open-source proxy and SDK that exposes many providers in the OpenAI format, licensed MIT except an enterprise directory under a separate license (repository, license). You run it yourself with your own provider keys, so there is no intermediary fee, but you operate the service: hosting, upgrades, spend tracking and incidents. SSO beyond five users and some features require a commercial license priced on quote (enterprise). Pick it if you want routing and fallback without a third party in the request path.
Going direct to providers
If you use mostly one provider, its own API removes the router layer entirely. The money rules differ more than the APIs:
- OpenAI: prepaid credits or monthly invoicing, minimum purchase of USD 5, purchased credits expire after one year, non-refundable except listed cases. Prompt caching is on by default and the Batch API is 50% cheaper with a 24-hour window.
- Together AI: fully prepaid, USD 5 minimum, credits do not currently expire; its terms say fees paid are non-refundable.
- Groq: invoiced monthly in arrears instead of prepaid credits; refunds case by case.
- Fireworks AI: prepaid usage-based billing; its terms say fees paid are non-refundable.
- DeepSeek: prepaid; top-up balances do not expire and unused balance can be refunded on request, subject to DeepSeek's review and after handling fees, without partial refunds (FAQ). Off-peak rates are half the peak rates.
Pick a direct provider when one vendor's models cover your workload and you want its newest features first.
Rynler
An OpenAI-compatible chat completions API at https://api.rynler.com/v1 with prepaid USD credits that never expire and no purchase fee: the credit added equals the amount paid (terms). Five listed models are priced 10% below eligible OpenRouter reference prices; other models use standard prices (pricing). On 2026-10-07, two of those five, and two of the 65 listed models overall, could be called. Each request reserves its maximum possible cost and settles against reported tokens, and uncertain requests keep their reservation until reviewed instead of being charged twice (request limits). The limits are real: a small catalogue whose availability changes (check models), no provider routing, no BYOK, no batch endpoint, no free models and no Responses API. Progressive streaming is available for models with a qualified streaming profile (on 2026-10-07: MiMo V2.6 Flash); other models deliver server-sent events after the full completion is validated. Pick it only if one of its discounted models is your production model and it is available. The Rynler vs OpenRouter page has the detailed comparison.
Match the option to the reason you are leaving OpenRouter
| Your reason | Look at |
|---|---|
| The card fee on credit purchases | Hugging Face (no fee stated), a direct provider, LiteLLM with your own keys, or Rynler for its discounted models |
| You need an EU endpoint | Requesty's EU router |
| You want no third party in the request path | LiteLLM, self-hosted |
| You use one provider's models almost exclusively | That provider's own API |
| You want refunds of unused credit | DeepSeek refunds unused balance on request, subject to review and after handling fees; OpenRouter accepts requests within 24 hours for card purchases; most others state purchases are non-refundable |
| You need hundreds of models and routing | Stay on OpenRouter, or compare Requesty and Eden AI |
FAQ
Which OpenRouter alternative has no platform fee?
On the pages we read on 2026-10-07: Hugging Face states no markup and no additional fees; LiteLLM is software you run with your own keys; Rynler adds no fee to credit purchases. Requesty (5%) and Eden AI (5.5%) publish a charge. Direct providers did not publish a fee on the pages we checked.

Every option on this page documents an OpenAI-compatible chat completions endpoint, with differences in extensions and strictness. Groq describes itself as "mostly compatible", and Rynler rejects unsupported fields instead of ignoring them. Test your exact request body before switching.
Is there an independent latency benchmark here?
No. We have not run one. When we publish a benchmark, it will include scripts, raw data and the results where Rynler is slower.
